We are so excited for the very first Awaken Fest BOTB! The Battle will run from 10am to 1pm on the day of the festival, so come out for exciting, on-the-edge-of-your-seat competition and root on your favorite band.
The Awaken Fest 2013 Battle of the Bands is open to all individuals and groups not signed to any major record label and subject to additional restrictions as determined by the management of Awaken Fest. The Awaken Fest Battle of the Bands is open to all residents of the United States and Canada who are 16 years or older at the time of entry or have provided a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Staff of Awaken Fest, sponsors, vendors, suppliers, advertising agencies, and immediate family members of employees or staff, are not eligible to enter or win.
How To Enter:
All entries must be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org starting 7-15-2013 and running through 9-1-2013. At 12:00 am on 9-1-2013 the contest will be closed and no more entries will be accepted.
What To Enter:
All accepted entries will have "Awaken Fest 2013 BOTB Entry - (Insert Your Bands Name)" in the subject line of the email. Also, all entries must provide 3 MP3's with typed lyrics, a band photo and a brief bio.
You must submit a non refundable $50 entry fee to be considered for the Awaken Fest Battle of the Bands. To do this, go to the "home" page and click on the "Donate" button. You will then be taken to the Awaken Ministry donation page. Enter the $50 entrance fee amount in the box provided and continue by logging into PayPal or use the "Don't have a PayPal account" method. Enter all the information on the following screen and click on "Review Donation & Continue". The next screen is a review screen where you will need to click on "Add Special Instructions for the Recipient". In this box please write "Battle of the Bands Entry" and then the bands name. Then continue with submitting your $50.
Round 1 (Qualifying Round) - In this round, bands are only being qualified or disqualified. All entries will be reviewed by Awaken Fest staff and only 10 bands will be selected to move on to Round 2 (see below).
Round 2 (Performance Round at Awaken Fest) - In this round, each selected band will play (at Awaken Fest 2013 from 10am to 1pm) for 15 minutes and get 5 minutes for set up and tear down.
All performances will be judged on the following criteria: Musicality (including Instrument ability, Lyrics/Vocal Quality, Rhythm/Tempo and Song Structure), Stage Presence, Crowd Interaction, and Originality. Also, for each minute you go over the suggested time, you will be deducted points from your overall score.
This year's Battle of the Bands winner will receive:
1. A 20 minute slot on the side stage at Awaken Fest 2013.
2. An automatic spot in the Battle of the Bands at Ichthus 2014 in Lexington, Kentucky.
Winner Notification & Acceptance:
Accepted entries from Round 1 will be notified by email the week of 9-9-2013. The winner of Round 2 will be notified immediately after scores are calculated (on the day of the event).
Staging of equipment must be done prior to the start of the competition in provided area. If equipment is not in place by 10am, disqualification from competition may occur. A time of 8am-10am load in time will be allotted. One standard drum set will be used by all bands. Competing drummers may bring their own sticks, cymbals and snares.
By submitting to the Awaken Fest 2013 Battle of the Bands, contestants agree to be bound by these official rules, decisions of the judges and decisions of Awaken Fest staff. Awaken Fest reserves the right to disqualify persons found tampering with or otherwise abusing any respect of this contest as solely determined by Awaken Fest. In the event the contest is compromised by non-authorized human intervention, tampering or other causes beyond the reasonable control of Awaken Fest, which corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness, or proper operation of the Contest, Awaken Fest reserves the right in its sole discretion to suspend, modify, or terminate the contest. Should the registration be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, Awaken Fest reserves the right to terminate the contest or selected bands based on the entries received up to that point in time. On the day of the performance, band members must be dressed in clothing free from obscenities, drugs, alcohol, sex, or any other subject matter not suitable for the festival atmosphere. Band name and lyrics must not contain any obscenities. The entire performance must be clean, non-offensive, and suitable for the atmosphere of Awaken Fest. Drugs and alcohol are not permitted in the stage/performance area, on the Hancock County Fairgrounds, or during the duration of the contest and festival. If the band incites moshing or any other sort of violence in the crowd, the band will be disqualified. Any willful or negligent destruction or theft of equipment or personal property belonging to Awaken Fest, or other entrants by an entrant will result in automatic disqualification. The entrant will also be liable for the replacement value of the item.
Awaken Fest will not be responsible for incomplete, lost, late, or misdirected registrations or for failure to receive registrations due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind, including, without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, hardware, or software. Awaken Fest will also not be responsible for any damaged, lost, or stolen, equipment or personal property belonging to the entrants or guests of the entrants.
